To celebrate, support, and extend Downtown Portland’s unique network of pedestrian streets.

STREETS FOR PEOPLE

The Portland Promenade Project is founded on the belief that walking a pedestrian street is a transformative experience. The noise of traffic fades; the pace of life slows; the mind and body relax. As the rigid hierarchy of street space melts away, the city itself is cast in an entirely new light. Like seeing things through the eyes of a child, the world once again becomes a place of wonder, curiosity and adventure.

Our goal is to create these experiences for more people, more often.

PORTLAND'S GROWING NETWORK

Here in Portland, we're lucky to have a long tradition of pedestrian streets. From bustling alleys lined with bars to leafy promenades dotted with fountains, our pedestrian streets come in all shapes and sizes, each with their own distinct character.

We want to help Portland celebrate these streets for what they are: civic and cultural assets that help make our city unique. We want to make sure these streets receive the love and attention they deserve so more people can enjoy them.

THE PORTLAND PROMENADE: AN URBAN DESTINATION

Portland's pedestrian streets could become something even more. By filling in the gaps and connecting these different places, Portland could have the biggest and most robust network of pedestrian streets in North America.

We call this network the Portland Promenade. We envision it as a new, one-of-a-kind attraction that strengthens the economic vibrancy and quality of life of our Downtown core. Building on Portland's long history as a transportation pioneer, we want to create a new model for how we use our streets, allowing residents, workers, and visitors to truly be a part of the urban fabric.
